around 10pm sunday night - may 14th, niki noticed water in the back yard... we were really caught off guard. no longer living in the house, i got over there around 12:30am to start pulling stuff up out of the basement. as i drove to the end of the street, i saw another family three houses up from niki's scrambling to save stuff.
after i pulled into the driveway, i walked into the backyard to check out just how bad it was. the brook was over its banks towards the back of the yard. about half of the backyard was under water. you could see and hear the water rushing by, streaming over the garden and into our neighbor's back yard. what was really odd was the direction the water was traveling. the flow wasn't in the same direction as the brook, instead the water was heading diagonally away from the brook, almost up lafayette street.
later i would hear our neighborhood, rosemont terrace, described as a large bowl. in hindsight i'm guessing that the water that spilled over from the brook was headed right into that bowl.
